A Gift For Tomorrow: The Story of the Trillium
Central Michigan University's Trillium Society honors and recognizes those who have chosen to benefit the university through a planned gift. The trillium plant was chosen to represent this elite group because of its representation of the number three: there are three petals, three sepals, three leaves, three parts in the pistil, and six (multiples of three) stamens.

Establishing a planned gift also comes to fruition during three phases. First, the planned giving donor makes a decision to bequeath a planned gift to support CMU. Second, the plan is established to complete the gift. Third, students benefit from the generosity of the donor.

Members of the Trillium Society share a strong common bond of generosity that nourishes CMU's extraordinary achievements and ensures the university's continued excellence. Membership in the Trillium Society is voluntary and without obligation. The Trillium Society allows the university to thank individuals today for the gifts of tomorrow, which will benefit students for many generations to come.

Ways of Giving
A planned gift may be included in a number of ways, including:
  • Naming CMU as a beneficiary in your will or revocable living trust
  • Providing for CMU through a life payment plan
  • Deeding property to CMU
  • Naming CMU as owner and beneficiary of your life insurance
  • Naming CMU as recipient of a charitable gift or retirement assets
Donor Recognition
CMU recognizes the significant role that planned giving donors play and is pleased to pay special tribute to their philanthropic leadership and vision. Membership recognition for donors includes the following:
  • Name is published in the Central Michigan University annual honor roll of donors
  • Special Invitation to an annual event, exclusively for Trillium Society members
  • Trillium Society lapel pin
  • Planned giving newsletter featuring information on charitable giving
  • A framed trillium print with an inscription indicating membership in the Trillium Society
  • Special invitation to other university events
