Policies Governing Annual and Endowed Funds
To protect donors and recipients of scholarships and gifts, the university has
established policies that govern named annual and endowed programs.
Recipients of scholarship and award programs administered by the university must
be enrolled students at Central Michigan University. Academic departments and
administrative programs that receive donor gifts must have recognized accounts
within the university's financial structure. When private gifts are accepted by
the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees, the university makes every
attempt to honor the donor's intent. Sometimes, however, the purpose or
conditions of the gift become obsolete or can no longer be reasonably satisfied.
If this occurs, the university reserves the right to make appropriate changes in
the use of the gift. In these instances, the university attempts to apply the
gift, income or principal in a way that most closely complies with the donor's
wishes.
