Centralink
Centralink Form
About Centralink
Centralink, an electronic funds transfer program, is an easier way for you to
make your gift to CMU. This web page will help you understand your rights and
the responsibilities of CMU and the participating financial institutions in
using electronic fund transfers. Please print this page out and keep it for your
records.
What is Centralink?
Centralink is a safe, reliable, and efficient electronic payment alternative to
checks and credit cards. With Centralink, there are no checks, no cards, no
stamps, no mail, and no fuss.
Is Centralink reliable?
Yes. Centralink uses the same safe, proven network that enables millions of
people, including half of all Social Security recipients, to receive income, pay
bills, or make gifts directly each month.
How does Centralink work?
You initiate the process by completing the
Centralink form, attaching a
voided check (if you wish to have your checking account debited each month), and
returning both to CMU. Your gift will be automatically debited from either your
checking or savings account on the 10th day of each month (or the first business
day thereafter).
Will I have a record of my gifts?
Yes. Your monthly bank statement will reflect
each transaction. (In addition, you will receive receipts from the university
for tax purposes.) You should anticipate the first transfer approximately 30 to
45 days after we receive your authorization.
Advantages for You and CMU
- Cost Savings. There are no sign-up costs or monthly fees. In fact, you will save
money by eliminating check-writing charges and postage.
Complete Control: You are in control of your monthly gift. You may cancel or
change the amount any time by calling the CMU Development & Alumni Relations
office.
- Greater Impact. Your annual gift is easier to budget when it's spread over a
full year. Now your annual gift can be spread out over 12 monthly donations of
$10 or more. It also amounts to a gift with greater impact and ensures a record
of continuous support.
- No More Phone Calls and Letters. Your monthly support eliminates annual fund
phone calls and direct mail solicitations. This means fewer interruptions for
you and a cost savings for the university. Your gift can then be used for its
intended purpose. Simply complete and mail the linked form to authorize CMU to
instruct your bank or savings institution to make gift payments from the account
you indicate. The deduction will continue until you choose to cancel or change
the amount of your monthly gift. With your gift, you share in the university's
dedication to its nearly 17,000 students. Our students benefit with affordable
tuition, scholarships, state-of-the-art technology and enhanced academic
programs. Please accept our appreciation for all who benefit directly and
indirectly from your most generous contribution.
What about my privacy?
Your privacy is secure with electronic fund transfers. Central Michigan cannot
obtain confidential information about you. The only information available to CMU
is on the authorization form you sign to begin Centralink. The university does
not have access to your account balance or any other information about you
maintained by your financial institution.
What happens if I change financial institutions or wish to cancel?
If you change financial institutions, or wish to change the amount of your gift,
a new enrollment form will be required. Please call CMU's Development & Alumni
Relations office at (800) 358-6903 to obtain a new form. Written notice (to the
address that appears at the bottom of this page) is required if you wish to
cancel participation.
What do I do if I discover an error?
If there is a discrepancy between your account statement and your authorized
gift amount, notify your financial institution immediately. You have up to 60
days from your account statement date to notify your financial institution in
person, by telephone, or in writing of an unauthorized payment or an incorrect
payment amount. If you notify your financial institution in person or by
telephone, you may also be required to provide written confirmation within 10
days. If you notify your financial institution within the 60-day time period,
you should receive credit for any unauthorized or incorrect payments. If the
financial institution needs more than 10 business days to investigate and
resolve a matter, it must return the amount to your account during the
investigation.
